Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4

Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4 Ideas/planning Regarding my ideas for Project #4, particularly the first part of editing our student ID photos, I've decided to do a mix of Laurance Demaison's and Jim Shaw's idea of the self portrait. I'm going for a mix of melancholic, distorted and peculiar look to my student ID through a sequence of photos relating to each other. How will these photos relate to each other in a sequence? Basically, I plan on making my ID photo less recognizable with each page of my photobook through a mosaic style while also warping my image page by page.  I've decided to use a grid method (grid size edited with Guides, Grid & Slices) in photoshop with my student ID and snap all the squares within the grid so I can individually rotate and warp each square. Using the rectangular marquee tool, I will select one square at a time, use the "transform" tool (found in edit at the top of Photoshop) and rotate a singular square so it n...

Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4 Research I found some artists for Project #4 that I plan on using as inspirations for my photoshop work of editing my self portrait ID image. The first photographer/artist I found goes by the name of Bruce Cratsley. I was particularly intrigued by his self portrait photo series, For Whom the Bell's Told (1984-1985) , which are a series of colour polaroid's of Cratsley, titled after the Hemingway novel. I was intrigued by this series of Cratsley's because of the deepness and mysterious vibe his photos give off but that may be because they're monochromatic. I think it's also intriguing that he chose himself as the subject which relates to the project we're doing. BOMB Magazine | Self Portraits from the series For Whom the Bell’s… Another photographer/artist I found interesting is Laurence Demaison. In her collection, Entomologies - 2024 , she takes self portraits of herself and turns them into a bigger, readable image. They...

Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4

Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4 Book #2 For my second photobook, the indirect self portrait, I decided to take photos of my Funko Pops because they're an interest of mine and each and every individual Funko Pop in my collection means something to me whether it's my favourite music artist, actor, cartoon character, etc... I've been collecting Funko Pops since I was a wee-little kid so that's why I also decided to use them for my second photobook.  How did you take your pictures and what setting did you use on your camera? Great question! For my set up, I used a navy blue sheet as my backdrop and an adjustable indoor grow lights for my lighting since I took my pictures when it was dark. For my camera settings, I used Av (Aperture Priority), the lowest possible aperture my camera has to let in the maximum amount of light, a shutter speed of 1/125, an ISO of 3200 and a RAW file to fix lighting and reduce any noise in post-production. After taking considerations in f...
