Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4
Self Portrait/Photobooks - Project #4
Ideas/planning
Regarding my ideas for Project #4, particularly the first part of editing our student ID photos, I've decided to do a mix of Laurance Demaison's and Jim Shaw's idea of the self portrait. I'm going for a mix of melancholic, distorted and peculiar look to my student ID through a sequence of photos relating to each other.
How will these photos relate to each other in a sequence?
Basically, I plan on making my ID photo less recognizable with each page of my photobook through a mosaic style while also warping my image page by page.
I've decided to use a grid method (grid size edited with Guides, Grid & Slices) in photoshop with my student ID and snap all the squares within the grid so I can individually rotate and warp each square. Using the rectangular marquee tool, I will select one square at a time, use the "transform" tool (found in edit at the top of Photoshop) and rotate a singular square so it no longer lines up with the original image and then warp my square using the warp tool (found in the transform menu). Any squares that don't have myself included in them will remain untouched since they will be unaffected by this process. I also made my photo pixelated (found in filters) to degrade it because this is basically a process of degradation similar to Hito Steyerl's idea of the "poor image," and to actually further degrade it, I made my photo monochromic to follow the "melancholic" vibe I'm trying to achieve.
Below is the beginning of my sequence and I will continue doing it until my photo is unrecognizable by editing 5 squares at a time, warping the squares and and repeating.
