Digital Painting - Project #5

Digital Painting - Project #5 Final iteration / Reflection This is my final design. I went ahead and added in some "cryptic" text. There's text blended into the background that repetitively says "paradise," implying that this place is paradise but it really isn't, and this contrasts with the other text such as, "I need to get out" and "was it worth it?"  This piece is meant to be ambiguous. It's solely up to the interpretation of the viewer since "weirdcore" isn't supposed to make complete sense. However, my main goal was to evoke feeling of disorientation, confusion, alienation and nostalgia. For this form of art, I'd like to say it disturbs the comforted and comforts the disturbed. All my images other than the sky were sourced online and copyright free, meaning they're free to use. I chose to experiment by using a bright colour palette with the manipulation of hue, saturation and brightness as well as colour ba...

Digital Painting - Project #5 iteration - #3 Next up in my process, I added two figures into my digital painting and once again, manipulated the colours using the tools provided to me on Procreate.

Digital Painting - Project #5 iteration - #2 Next, I started adding "out of place" images since that's apart of the "weirdcore" aesthetic and again, I  manipulated them using the hue, saturation and brightness tool, colour balance tool and the gradient map tool on Procreate. I decided to go with these unnaturalistic colours since the whole aesthetic revolves around it being "dream-like".

Digital Painting - Project #5 iteration - #1 For my first process, I started off with the background. For the actual sky, I used a photo that I took back home In Ontario of the sunset and manipulated it using the hue, saturation and brightness tool on Procreate. I did the same thing with the ground as it was originally green. Other than the sky, everything else was found as a transparent PNG online.

Digital Painting - Project #5 Ideas - Continued I was researching into what what objects/things are associated with the "weirdcore" aesthetic and found the following things that I plan to take into consideration while planning my digital painting: - Eyes or eyeballs      Evokes a sense of being watched and vulnerability - Liminal space as the background      Places that feel familiar yet slightly off to provoke an "uncanny" feeling - Screens and monitors      Replacing faces displaying cryptic messages, symbols or blending human and digital elements - Childhood objects      Evoking nostalgia or anemoia - Distorted human forms        Faces with missing features, multiple eyes or simplified human shapes that feel uncanny - Blurry or lo-fi items      Low-resolution or compressed images of everyday objects to create a dream-like effect - Text and signs      Cryptic messages adding t...

Digital Painting - Project #5 Ideas For my digital painting my main idea is going with the "weirdcore" aesthetic which if you're unaware what that is, it is a surreal internet aesthetic that is mostly minimalistic, focusing on conveying core ideas rather than polished aesthetics or interactive features. The aesthetic itself is supposed to evoke feelings of confusion, disorientation, dread, alienation and nostalgia through digitally constructed or edited images that often (not always) depict familiar objects in an uncanny way.  This aesthetic is also often associated with the "backrooms" because they're both associated with the liminal space or the liminal horror aesthetic which explores eerie and unfamiliar environments. Below are some examples of the "weirdcore" aesthetic as well as a video that further explains what weirdcore is and where it originates from. Understanding The Meaning of Weirdcore
