Digital Painting - Project #5
Digital Painting - Project #5
Final iteration / Reflection
This is my final design. I went ahead and added in some "cryptic" text. There's text blended into the background that repetitively says "paradise," implying that this place is paradise but it really isn't, and this contrasts with the other text such as, "I need to get out" and "was it worth it?"
This piece is meant to be ambiguous. It's solely up to the interpretation of the viewer since "weirdcore" isn't supposed to make complete sense. However, my main goal was to evoke feeling of disorientation, confusion, alienation and nostalgia. For this form of art, I'd like to say it disturbs the comforted and comforts the disturbed.
All my images other than the sky were sourced online and copyright free, meaning they're free to use. I chose to experiment by using a bright colour palette with the manipulation of hue, saturation and brightness as well as colour balance and gradient map. The "weirdcore" aesthetic typically uses overly saturated colours so I feel as that this was a good choice in my piece. I also used out-of-place objects/things to go with the disorienting and confusing feelings that weirdcore is supposed to give, like the swing coming down from the sky, the eyeballs (to give a feeling of being watched), the open door that seems as its leading to nowhere and the flower in the sky, mimicking the sun or a planet.
Overall, I'd like to say I've succeeded in making this piece feel liminal and disorienting but again, it's ambiguous and solely up to how the viewer decides to interpret it.
