Video Art - Project #3

 Video Art - Project #3

Part - 1 / Short Video Sketches

Starting Project #3, I approached the first part of the assignment, short video sketches, by setting up a still life using a black sheet as my backdrop, an orchid, boxes, a rope, decorative pumpkins and a wood carving consisting of two mushrooms. With my set up, I began to carefully plan out the continuous camera shots I needed to take and I even played around with my Canon EOS Rebel SL1's settings, particularly the saturation since it was needed for one of my shots; I increased my saturation to the highest possible (+). The reds and oranges within my still life ended up extremely bright compared to the rest of my objects colours.

After I took all the shots needed for the first part of the project, I took my videos into CapCut, merged them and labeled each camera shot/movement in-between with text.

Part - 2 / Thematic Video

Moving onto part two of the assignment, thematic video, I decided to go with the theme "how to". When I was younger I used to watch a lot of DIY/how to videos so I think that's why I was drawn into choosing this theme.

To start, I was very eager on making a how to cooking video because I had just learned to cook myself in summer 2025, and I had a recipe for buffalo chicken stuffed peppers saved on one of my Pinterest boards. While eager, I made the grave mistake of using canned chicken (do not use this). Other than making this mistake, I shot with many angles and movements within my thematic video.

After reviewing my video, I wasn't particularly with the outcome of the meal I made so it became what I would call a "flop," so I instead turned my video into a "how to" TikTok parody. By using royalty-free sound effects by Kevin Macleod, Spongebob years later time cards, instructional text with a wee-bit of humour and an A.I generated voice called "timid frog," found in the CapCut voice menu, I perfectly achieved that TikTok "humour" I was going for rather than a boring how to with a hideous outcome.

If no one knows what I'm talking about when I say TikTok "humour," I have some videos linked below.
